D.R.I., short for Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, is a band formed in Houston in 1982 by brothers Kurt and Eric Brecht with guitarist Spike Cassidy. They are considered pioneers of crossover thrash, the style that fused the speed of hardcore punk with heavy metal.
The band relocated to San Francisco in 1983 and released a string of influential records, including the "Dirty Rotten LP," "Dealing with It!," and the 1987 album "Crossover," whose title helped give the genre its name. Founders Kurt Brecht and Spike Cassidy have anchored the group ever since.
