About Jason Moran

Jason Moran is a jazz pianist, composer, and educator born in Houston in 1975. Like several of the city's leading jazz musicians, he studied at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts before continuing at the Manhattan School of Music under the pianist Jaki Byard.

Moran has recorded extensively for Blue Note Records and leads his trio, the Bandwagon. In 2010 he was named a MacArthur Fellow, the award often called the "genius grant," and he served as artistic director for jazz at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
