Kim Burrell is a gospel singer born in Houston in 1972, widely admired by other vocalists for her improvisational, jazz-influenced phrasing. The daughter of a pastor and an evangelist singer, she grew up singing in Houston church choirs, including the Inspirational Sounds Mass Choir.
She released her first album, "Try Me Again," in 1995 and reached a wider audience with "Everlasting Life" in 1998. Over the years her voice has drawn collaborators from across gospel and popular music, among them Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, and Harry Connick Jr.
