MKTO is an American pop duo whose Cypress, Texas connection runs through singer Tony Oller, a Cypress native who graduated from Cy-Fair High School in 2009. Oller and his bandmate Malcolm David Kelley met in 2010 on the set of the Nickelodeon series Gigantic, where they played best friends, and they formed the duo in 2012. The name stands for "Misfit Kids and Total Outcasts" and also nods to their initials.
Signed to Columbia Records, MKTO broke through with the single "Classic" in 2013, which reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their self-titled debut album, released in January 2014, topped the chart in Australia and produced additional singles including "Thank You," "God Only Knows," and "American Dream."
The duo announced a breakup in 2017 before reuniting in 2018 with BMG. Tony Oller stepped back from the group around 2021, and the pair reunited again to perform in January 2025. Through Oller, MKTO remains one of the most recognizable acts with roots in the Cypress area.
