Devendra Banhart is a singer-songwriter and visual artist born in Houston in 1981. Though born in Texas, he spent much of his childhood in Caracas, Venezuela, before relocating to California as a teenager.
Banhart became one of the central figures of the early-2000s "freak folk" movement, known for his intimate, psychedelic songwriting and distinctive voice. He has recorded a long series of albums that move between English and Spanish and between folk, psychedelia, and pop.
