At the corner of Second Street and North Kinsley Avenue in Winslow, Arizona, sits Standin' on the Corner Park, a tribute to the Eagles' 1972 hit 'Take It Easy.' The park opened in 1999 and features a trompe-l'oeil mural by John Pugh, a parked flatbed Ford, and Ron Adamson's bronze statue 'Easy' of a guitar-toting troubadour. A note on the credits: 'Take It Easy' was started by Jackson Browne and finished by Glenn Frey, and Frey's band the Eagles made it famous (it was their debut single). The flatbed-Ford line that anchors the park is straight from the lyric. A life-sized statue of Frey was added in 2016 after his death.

History of Winslow

Meteor Crater RoadyGoat

Meteor Crater (officially Barringer Crater) sits in the high desert about 18 miles west of Winslow, Arizona, just south of I-40. It's roughly 3,900 feet across, about 560 feet deep, and ringed by a rim rising some 148 feet above the plain. It formed around 50,000 years ago when an iron-nickel asteroid about 150 feet (46 m) wide slammed into the desert at tens of thousands of miles per hour. The crater is privately owned by the Barringer family, whose ancestor Daniel Barringer was among the first to argue (correctly) that it was an impact site rather than a volcanic feature. NASA astronauts trained here for the Apollo missions because the terrain resembled the Moon. You can walk overlooks along the rim.
