Hudson, Ohio: Where EuroTrip Begins RoadyGoat

Hudson, Ohio, is the opening setting of the 2004 comedy film EuroTrip. The movie begins at a Hudson high school graduation party in 2004, where Scotty Thomas is dumped by his girlfriend Fiona — and a band fronted by her secret boyfriend gets on stage and performs the song 'Scotty Doesn't Know' about the affair, in front of the entire crowd, while Scotty has no idea. The song, by the Boston band Lustra, became the film's most famous moment and a cult favorite long after EuroTrip's modest box-office run, and it all kicks off right here in this quiet town northeast of Akron.

Akron: The High Point, Long Before Rubber RoadyGoat

1825

Akron, Ohio is the Rubber Capital of the World, the home of Goodyear and Firestone, a city built on tires and tread. So you might think the name comes from rubber, or some material of the trade. It doesn't, and it can't, because the name is far older than the rubber. Akron comes from the Greek word akron, meaning summit, or high point. The town was laid out in the eighteen twenties at the high ground along the canal, the highest point on the route, and named for that elevation in classical Greek. The rubber industry didn't arrive until decades later. So a city famous for soft, bouncy tires is actually named, in ancient Greek, for being the top of the hill.
