The Chattahoochee River, approximately 430 to 434 miles long, originates in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia and flows southwesterly through the Atlanta metropolitan area before forming part of the Georgia-Alabama and Georgia-Florida borders. Its name comes from Creek Indian words meaning "painted rock," a reference to rock outcroppings along its upper portion. The river has been a vital resource for thousands of years, serving as a source of food, water, and transportation for Indigenous peoples and later for settlers, and continues to be a crucial water supply for metro Atlanta.
This enduring waterway has also inspired numerous musicians. Our collection features five songs that pay homage to the Chattahoochee, capturing its spirit and significance. Artists like Alan Jackson and Zach Top have woven the river into their narratives, reflecting its place in American culture.
