Interstate 49 is a significant north-south highway stretching across Louisiana, Arkansas, and Missouri, connecting the Gulf Coast to the Midwest. The highway's southern terminus is in Lafayette, Louisiana, at I-10, and its northern terminus is in Kansas City, Missouri, at I-435 and I-470. While not part of the original 1957 Interstate Highway plan, I-49 was conceived in the 1970s to improve transportation and foster economic growth, with the first segment in Louisiana opening in 1983. The entire length of the 212-mile road in Louisiana was completed in 1996. The highway is currently signed in multiple segments, with future plans to create a continuous route from New Orleans to Kansas City.
This collection explores the musical landscape inspired by this important thoroughfare. Our music collection features three songs that reference Interstate 49, including "Shreveport To New Orleans" by Roger Creager and "Nowhere Fast" and "Midwest Memoir" by Tyler Nance. These tracks offer a glimpse into the highway's influence on artists and their storytelling.
